Scarce Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Pitcher with Brown-Slip Stenciled Decoration, attributed to the Whelchel Family, Gaffney, SC area, late 19th century, vasiform pitcher with tall, flaring collar, decorated with a stenciled brown-slip design of the number "1" surrounded by a wreath surmounted by an arrow with scrollwork. Gray alkaline-glazed exterior and brownish-white glazed interior. Provenance: Ex-Collection of George Crow, Spartanburg, SC. Very nice condition with three small chips to proper right side of rim. H 10 3/4".
