Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Clabber Bowl with Kaolin Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to Collin Rhodes, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid form with wide mouth, coved rim molding, and applied handle, decorated in kaolin slip with two slip-trailed, fan-shaped floral motifs against a gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. Brushed iron slip decoration to handle terminals. Provenance: In her notes, Carole states about this bowl, "This is one of a pair of pieces of Edgefield that Susan bought from Patty. The story was that they traveled all the way to Australia and back." Excellent condition with a thin 2 1/2" crack from rim on interior, partially visible on exterior. H 7 3 1/6" ; Diam. (at rim) 8 3/8".
