Three-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar with Kaolin-Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jar with narrow, flaring mouth and oversized arched tab handles, decorated on the front and reverse in slip-trailed kaolin slip with a sunflower blossom surrounding a scrolled "3," all against a gray-green alkaline-glazed ground. Chips and wear to rim. Chips to handles. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder forming a chip with some glaze residue. H 13 3/4".
