Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Kaolin-Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to Thomas Chandler, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a lesser-seen Chandler motif of a flower with looping blossom and leaves, applied in slip-trailed kaolin slip against a gray alkaline-glazed ground. Restoration to an approximately 1 3/4" x 1 1/8" flake off exterior surface of spout. Minor traces of old blue paint to exterior. H 17 1/2".
