Small-Sized Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Dated "1858," Westerwald, Germany, 1858, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and tall, tooled spout with rounded mouth, decorated with a spotted drape-and-tassel motif below a rows of chain links and spotted and dashed brushwork. Cobalt highlight to mouth. Reverse inscribed "i858" with underscore. A 3/4" flake to bottom edge. Residue to mouth. A short in-the-firing separation in base of handle. H 5 3/4".
