Fine Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Handled Jar with Kaolin Slip Decoration, attributed to Collin Rhodes, Shaw's Creek, Edgefield District, SC, circa 1850, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied handle, decorated around its circumference with a slip-trailed kaolin slip floral and looping drape motif against a glossy, gray-green ground. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A Y-shaped hairline across hairline, continuing a short distance onto base in two places as well as forming a 1 1/2" x 2" T to base area. Two shallow chips to interior of rim. Some tight lines to collar. H 7 1/4".
