Small-Sized Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Pear Motif, Stenciled "PALATINE POTTERY. CO ./ PALATINE / W. VA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring a stenciled design of a pear surrounded by Palatine Pottery Company maker's stenciling. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. Two minor in-the-firing chips to interior of rim. Some in-the-firing roughness to top of rim. A smooth in-the-firing contact mark at base on front. H 6 3/4".
