Rare Six-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "T.S. BALSLEY / MANUFACTURER / DETROIT, MICH.," third quarter 19th century, semi-ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and ribbed handles, brush-decorated with an undulating flowering vine in the Western Pennsylvania style. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Traces of red paint to surface. A 1 1/8" rim chip. Two flakes to interior of rim. A 3" crack from rim on proper right side of churn. A 1" chip to proper right handle. An X-shaped crack to underside forming a T-shaped crack at base. H 19 1/4".
