Rare Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug, Dated 1873, attributed to the Jesse P. Bodie Pottery, Kirksey's Crossroads, Edgefield District, SC, 1873, ovoid jug with tooled spout, featuring the incised date, "1873," beside an X. Incised "2" within parentheses below. A Bodie jug dated 1874, sold in Crocker Farm's Summer 2023 auction, lot 55, bore an inscription identifying William Horne and John Devore as its makers followed by the words "Kirksey's X Roads" denoting "Kirksey's Cross Roads." Surface covered in a matte olive-colored alkaline glaze. Essentially as-made condition with an in-the-firing matte finish to glaze. H 14".
