Scarce Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug with Rock Teeth, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA, circa early 1970s, squat-shaped, ovoid jug with slightly-flared spout, decorated with a hand-modeled and applied clay face with oval eyes set within flattened lids, pierced ears, rounded nose with depressed nostrils, and smiling mouth with rock teeth. Surface covered in a high-gloss, olive-green alkaline glaze. Incised Lanier Meaders signature on underside. This jug's form, glazed eyes, and rock teeth place among Meaders's lesser-seen, earlier works from the first years of the 1970s. A shallow flake to proper right ear. H 8 3/4".
