Rare Painted Woman Face Jug, possibly North Carolina origin, 20th century, molded face jug in the form of an African-American head with carved teeth and original cold-painted surface. A small number of these face jugs have surfaced, all of which were reportedly made by a Mr. Nelson in North Wilkesboro, NC, in the 1920's and discovered in the 1990's. Provenance: Recently discovered in the Southeastern U.S. Losses to spout. Drilled lamp hole near base on reverse. H 14 3/4".
