Four-Gallon Double-Handled Stoneware Jug with Stenciled Vine Decoration, Stenciled "JAMES HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO, PA.," circa 1875, ovoid jug with tooling to shoulder and spout and two applied vertical-strap handles at the shoulder, decorated with a rare stenciled vine motif in three rows above the maker's stenciling and one row below. Base with bold-faced stenciled flanked by fleur de lis stenciling underscored by a freehand stripe. Professional restoration to proper left handle. Two minor in-the-firing chips to proper right handle. A restored 2 1/2" circular area to shoulder on front. Restored spout chips. H 18".
