Rare Early-Period Stoneware Face Jug with Alkaline Glaze, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA, circa 1970, squat-shaped, ovoid jug with hand-modeled and applied clay facial features including kaolin eyes with black-slip pupils, pointed nose, pinched lips, and well-sculpted ears. Surface covered in an olive-green alkaline glaze. Underside incised with Lanier Meaders signature. A glaze flake to proper right ear and tip of nose, possibly in-the-making. Some minor surface wear to reverse. "1295" written in green ink on underside. H 8 1/2".
