Large-Sized Bellarmine Stoneware Jug with Seal, probably Frechen, Germany, 16th or 17th century, highly-ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, the neck decorated with molded design of a bearded man's face. Three impressed serrated circles to shoulder on each side. Midsection with molded and applied floral seal. Belly decorated with a sprig-molded design of the Coat of Arms of Amsterdam. Iron-dipped surface with overlying salt-glaze. A thin crack to spout on front. Typical in-the-firing flaws including a 1 1/2" piece of adhered clay near base. Small base chips. H 13 1/2".
