Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Decoration, Stamped "P. CROSS / HARTFORD," CT origin, circa 1806-1808, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, decorated on the front with an incised and cobalt-highlighted flourish below the maker's mark and on the reverse with a four-petaled flower blossom. Brushed cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Heavy chipping around foot. Minor scattered exfoliation to shoulder area on reverse/side and jar's underside. A 1" in-the-firing flake to proper right handle. Wear to opposing handle. Rim chips. Staining to surface. H 12 5/8".
