Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, probably Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated with a four-petaled, spotted floral motif on the front and reverse related to watch spring designs of an earlier time period. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: From a fifty-year New England collection. Rim chips. In-the-firing flaws, including a flake (contact mark) to one handle and one side. A 1 3/4" line from rim. A few short lines from rim on interior. Hairlines to underside, continuing vertically onto base area of jar. Additional faint surface crazing to body of jar. Grease residue to surface. H 13".
