One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Man-in-the-Moon Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX. / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a crescent-shaped foliate motif surrounding a man's face with open mouth. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A Y-shaped crack across underside forming a second 6 3/4" Y-shaped crack on proper right side of jar. Exfoliation to proper right side of jar. A 3" crack from rim on reverse. Rim chips. Chips and wear to inner rim for lid. H 9 3/4".
