Rare Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, attributed to Otto Brown, Bethune, SC or possibly NC or GA origin, second or early third quarter 20th century, semi-ovoid jug with applied facial features including Roman nose, raised eyes with pierced pupils, thin eyebrows, curved ears with pierced dot on interior, wavy mustache, and an open mouth with philtrum and applied broken china teeth. Surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze. "150" written in black crayon on underside. While Otto Brown's face jugs are typically found with an incised mustache, the mustache on this example is thinly modeled and applied. Provenance: Recently found in North Carolina. Chipping to ears. Minor wear to nose. H 8".
