One-and-a-Half-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jar, Stamped "D S," Daniel Seagle, Vale, NC, circa 1840, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and rounded lug handles, the surface covered in an olive-green alkaline glaze accented with darker runs. Impressed "D S" on one handle and with one-gallon and half-gallon capacity marks on opposing handle. A crack across underside, extending 5" up one side. Otherwise excellent condition with a minor nick to one handle. H 10 3/4".
