Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Political Crock with Cobalt Decoration, Inscribed "Grover / Cleveland / 1884," NY State origin, possibly White Family, Utica, NY, 1884, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, featuring the cobalt inscription, "Grover / Cleveland / 1884," surrounded scrolled plants emanating from a flowerpot. Cobalt-script "3" to shoulder. This political work was made in support of Democratic Governor of New York, Grover Cleveland, in the U.S. Presidential Election of 1884. Relatively few examples of American stoneware related to The American Presidency have survived. A 2 1/2" crack from rim on front. A 1/2" line in one handle. H 10".
