Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Presentation Jug with Incised and Impressed Decoration, Inscribed "H.F.", Manhattan, NY origin, early 19th century, ovoid jug with heavily-tooled spout, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a cartouche surrounding the initials, "H.F.". Cartouche bordered by incised and cobalt-highlighted foliate designs including a small tulip blossom, all accented with impressed asterisks. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Relatively few Manhattan stoneware pieces bearing initials or any sort of presentation inscription are known. This example includes excellent decoration, size, color, and condition. Provenance: Crocker Farm, Inc., July 21, 2018, lot 121. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some typical minor in-the-firing flaws. H 11 1/4".
