One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES.UTICA.N[Y]," NY State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fantailed bird atop a stylized branch. Cobalt accents to maker's mark. Heavy water glass staining to interior. A 5 1/2" crack from rim on front. A 3 1/2" H-shaped hairline to midsection on front. A 5 1/4" curving crack from rim, descending through one handle. A chip to same handle. Light wear to opposite handle. A 3 1/2" inverted Y-shaped line on reverse. An in-the-firing base chip on reverse. In-the-firing chips to underside at edge. Staining to surface. H 7 3/8".
