Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "T.D. METCALF / Sunbury, Pa.," circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and ribbed lug handles, brush-decorated with two tulips emanating from a central stem. Brushed "5" to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Several cracks from rim, including a 3 3/4" wedge-shaped reglued piece. A chip to one handle. Some in-the-firing pings to surface. Staining to surface. A minor rim chip on front. H 12".
