Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER, JR. / ROCHESTER. N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flowering plant with swag details to the petals and leaves. Slip-trailed "2." above. Brushed cobalt accent to maker's mark. Excellent condition with only minor flaws. A 3/8" inverted U-shaped line to spout on reverse, descending from a small spout nick. A typical vertical wrinkle in the clay where the handle meets the spout. Some minor horizontal wear to side of jug near base. An extremely minor 1/2" in-the-firing wrinkle in the clay on reverse. H 14".
