Outstanding Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Incised Floral Decoration, Stamped "NICHOLS & BOYNTON / BURLINGTON VT," circa 1845-1855, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, exuberantly-decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flowering vine bearing two heart-shaped blossoms. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Striking decoration, rare by any maker. Includes a salt-glazed lid. Excellent condition with minor wear to inner rim for lid. H (excluding lid) 11 1/4".
