Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "RAGER LLOYD & CO / PALATINE. W VA.," circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, featuring arched Rager, Lloyd & Co. maker's stenciling surrounding a stenciled floral motif. Freehand wavy stripe decoration below rim and at base. Shoulder with bold-faced stenciled "3" flanked by wavy freehand stripes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Very nice condition. Grease staining to surface. A gouge mark to front, which occurred prior to being stenciled. A small piece of clay residue to shoulder on front. H 13 3/4".
