Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Dog Decoration, Stamped "C.W. BRAUN. / BUFFALO.N.Y.," circa 1870, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a running dog with heavily-spotted body and upswept tail. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. The only Buffalo stoneware piece with dog decoration that we have seen. A 1 1/2" in-the-firing chip to underside at edge. A tiny chip to one handle. A few minor surface flakes to reverse. A 2 1/2" in-the-firing spider line to Albany slip on interior, not visible on exterior. Some small in-the-firing pings to surface. H 10 1/2".
