Two-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG .PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a tulip plant bearing a blossom and bud. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Includes salt-glazed two-gallon jar lid with different two-gallon capacity mark, but likely original to the jar. A chip to top of rim on front and a rim chip on reverse. Minor chips to inner rim for lid. Discolored in-the-firing marks at base. Some staining. Lid in excellent condition. H (including lid) 12 1/2".
