Two Stoneware Crocks with Cobalt Bird Decorations, Ballardvale, MA origin, circa 1885, both of cylindrical form, a five-gallon example with large slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on a stump, paired with a three-gallon example with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on an elaborate branch with fruit-like motifs below. Five-gallon crock with wide, taped crack on reverse, continuing to underside, two small adjacent chips to one handle, two small rim chips, and light water glass staining. Three-gallon crock a long crack from rim through one handle, two chips to same handle, minor chipping to opposite handle, a 3 1/4" vertical surface line, not visible on interior, to left side of crock's front. H (of larger) 12 3/8".
