Multi-Glazed Redware Wall Pocket, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, ovoid form with flattened back, coggled rim, and applied scrolled handle, the front decorated with a hand-modeled and applied clay bird-and-floral motif. Surface dipped in yellowish slip, decorated with heavy streaks of copper and manganese, and covered in a clear lead glaze. The handle was broken at its two junctures with the rim, reglued, and professionally colored along the breaks. A faint 3" hairline descending from rim on left side near handle, which includes a very small amount of restoration and/or coloring at the rim. Beak of bird professionally restored. H 8".
