Scarce Glazed Redware Jar, Stamped "S. BELL & SON. / STRASBURG," VA origin, circa 1890, bowl-shaped jar with thin, semi-rounded rim and incised sine wave decoration to shoulder, the exterior decorated with unusual copper-flecked yellowish slip under a clear lead glaze. Lead-and-manganese-glazed interior. A 1 3/4" flake to interior base, tapering to a small filled hole on underside. An additional 1 3/4" reglued flake to interior wall near base, including some additional exfoliation around the reglued flake. The flake tapers to a small filled hole on the exterior. A 3" horizontal surface line near base. Chipping to rim, some of which is filled and colored. A 2" hairline and 7/8" hairline from rim. Minor exfoliation below rim and at base. A small, unglazed in-the-firing contact mark near base. H 7" ; Diam. 8 1/2".
