Unusual Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed and Incised Decoration, Midwestern origin, probably Ohio, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with squared rim and arched tab handles, decorated on the front with a hand-incised stem bearing an impressed flower blossom and leaves. Impressed above with a three-gallon capacity mark, III, surrounded by asterisks, also with three circles above. Handle terminals impressed with stars. Cobalt highlights to decoration, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Heavy chipping to rim. Salt residue to underside. A small base chip. H 12 1/4".
