Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER. / ROCHESTER. N.Y.," circa 1855, ovoid jug with thick, tapered spout, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of an orchid plant with heavily-striped petals and leaves, the interior of the blossom with "bull's eye motif" emanating with two dotted trails. Slip-trailed "3" to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to maker's marks. Superb decoration, color, and condition. An approximately 3 1/2" X-shaped hairline on underside, forming an approximately 4" wide T near bottom edge on reverse. An in-the-firing chip (stacker mark) to top of handle. A minor, in-the-firing line to spout at juncture with handle, measuring 1 1/4". H 16".
