Manganese-Decorated Redware Tobacco Jar, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, cylindrical form with footed base, raised banding, and arched lug handles, the surface decorated with heavy manganese sponging and covered in a clear lead glaze. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark at shoulder. Provenance: From an eighty-plus year private collection. Light surface to body, handles, and rim. A small chip near base on front. Exfoliation to interior. H 6 3/8".
