Scarce Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher with Impressed Star, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1875, vasiform pitcher with footed base and narrow mouth with rounded rim, brush-decorated with a two-stemmed clover plant design. Additional clover decoration around shoulder. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Unusual impressed star at shoulder on reverse, the meaning of which has yet to be determined. Very nice condition with two in-the-firing contact marks near base on side of pitcher. A 2 3/4" hairline from rim on side of pitcher. A minor in-the-firing contact mark to side of spout. H 8 5/8".
