Outstanding Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1825, cylindrical jar with footed base and rounded shoulder and rim, exuberantly-decorated around the body with six vertical tulip motifs. An additional small flower at the midsection. Cobalt stripe around base. Among the most heavily-decorated Baltimore stoneware jars known. Some surface wear. A few typical in-the-firing flaws to surface. A very tight X-shaped surface line on underside, not visible on interior. Numerous surface lines to interior, not visible on exterior. A glazed-over base chip. H 8 1/2".
