Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Alexandria, VA Advertising, Western PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, stenciled "E.J. MILLER & CO. / QUEENSWARE & C. / ALEXANDRIA . VA.," surrounding a scrolled stenciled flourish. Small stenciled tulips above and a stenciled "2" with flourishes below. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Light surface wear. A small, worn bump in the clay to the left of the stenciling. A smooth in-the-firing contact mark near base on left side of jar. H 11 7/8".
