Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, probably Crolius Family, circa 1790, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled neck, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a bird perched on a branch. Incised details to wing. Impressed circular eye. Stem formed from a two-pronged stylus. A 1" circular restoration to front, touching edge of bird's tail. A circular 1 1/4" restored section to right side of jug. A long horizontal Y-shaped crack to midsection including two small, filled and colored spots. Three lines to spout. H 11 1/2".
