Outstanding Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Leaf-and-Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, brush-decorated with an oversized leaf and two tulips emanating from a stem with looping vines. Exceptional size to decoration. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Areas of fry to cobalt. A small in-the-firing iron ping to lower tulip. A minor in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder. A shallow chip to top of rim, probably in-the-making. H 16 3/4".
