Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "WHITES UTICA," NY State origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a fan-tailed bird perched on a stylized branch. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Staining and residue to surface. A small in-the-firing iron ping and small piece of adhered clay at shoulder on front. One handle with a glazed-over chip and small glazed-over dent. Reverse with a small in-the-firing ping. H 10 3/4".
