Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Urn and Foliate Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON. / BENNINGTON VT.," circa 1855, semi-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of an open-handled urn brimming with leaves. Cobalt accent to maker's mark. A rare design for this capacity. Losses to spout. A salt drip to base and underside. A few small in-the-firing pings to surface. A tiny nick and minor wear to cobalt. H 11 3/4".
