Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Impressed Fish Motif, Stamped "BOSTON," Jonathan Fenton, Boston, MA, late 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted design of a heavily-scaled fish. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity. An iconic, early Northeastern design. Both handles professionally restored. Restoration to both sides, not affecting decoration. Restored base chips. A small Y-shaped line below one fish. H 11 3/4".
