Rare Anna Pottery Cobalt-and-Manganese-Decorated Stoneware Frog Pitcher, attributed to Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, circa 1885, molded figure of a frog raised on a stump base with relief oak leaves and acorns, its open mouth forming the pitcher's spout. Surface dipped in whitish slip and lavishly-decorated with purplish-brown manganese brushwork and cobalt spotting, all under a clear salt glaze. Darker manganese slip highlights the animal's eyes and the pitcher's twig-form handle. An outstanding figural form, few of which are known, this example featuring particularly fine two-color slip decoration. Very nice condition with minor chips to edge of frog's mouth and a small chip to frog's knee. H 14".
