Two-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "CORTLAND," Madison Woodruff, possibly with Romanzo Smith, NY State origin, circa 1867-1869, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of three flowers emanating from a central stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Impressed with a cobalt-highlighted "X" stamp beside maker's mark. A 3 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. A small rim chip on front. H 9 1/4".
