Scarce Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Crock, Stamped "F. LAUFERSWEILER / EMPIRE CITY POTTERY / 517&519w27.ST.NY," circa 1876-1889, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an abstract, swirling slip-trailed design accented with spots. Heavy cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A thin, approximately 1" crack from rim on front. A thin, approximately 1 3/4" crack from rim on reverse. A thin, approximately 2 1/2" crack from rim extending through one handle. A small, in-the-firing iron ping to rim. H 9".
