Rare One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Presentation Jug, Inscribed "S.W.C.," Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with squared spout, featuring the slip-trailed cobalt initials, "S.W.C.," underscored by a looping flourish. Cobalt accent to maker's mark. Relatively few Norton pieces with cobalt-slip letters or words are known. Handle broken and reglued. Two small spout chips and a tiny nick to interior of spout. A small base chip. A spot of fry to cobalt period after "W." Minor traces of old blue paint to reverse. H 11 1/2".
