Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Flowering Urn Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1825, ovoid jug with footed base, tooled spout, and ribbed handle, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of flowering plant with unusual splay-petaled blossoms emanating from a stripe-and-spot-decorated urn. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Decorated Baltimore jugs are rarely found. The jug's spotted flowering urn motif relates this work to a small number of other pieces produced in Baltimore during the same period. Provenance: Found in the basement of a Baltimore County, MD home. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small, glazed-over base chip and bubbling to thicker areas of cobalt slip. H 15".
