Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and incised banding to midsection, brush-decorated on the upper body with an undulating vine between freehand stripes. Decorated below with a freehand "4" flanked by dashes. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent condition with two small Y-shaped lines to underside and a small X-shaped line to underside, not visible on the interior and all likely in-the-firing. H 14 1/2".
