One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "HAMILTON / & / JONES / GREENSBORO. / PA," circa 1875, ovoid jar with semi-rounded rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a shield surrounding the maker's name, "HAMILTON / & / JONES / GREENSBORO. / PA." Freehand straight and wavy stripes above and below. A 5 1/4" angled crack from rim on reverse. Two large Y-shaped lines, one on left side of jar's front, the other on the right side of the jar. A 1 7/8" in-the-firing base chip on reverse. Minor chipping to bottom edge of rim. Light wear to surface and cobalt. H 8".
