Fine Large-Sized Redware Mug with Slip Decoration, ME origin, early to mid 19th century, cylindrical form with footed base and ribbed handle, the lead-glazed surface coated in a grayish slip and decorated throughout with mottled manganese. Underside with erroneous pencil inscription, reading "Gonic / NH / (Sour[?]) / Rare." Desirable form, glaze, and size. Very nice condition with wear to rim and a small glaze flake to handle. H 5 1/2".
